Program for Hypertension Research

An estimated 1.28 billion adults aged 30–79 years have hypertension.  Hypertension is a leading risk factor for disease burden and death worldwide and a major risk factor for heart attack, heart failure, stroke, and kidney failure.  In the US, hypertension affects approximately 45% of the adult population.  Less than half of hypertensive patients have their blood pressure adequately controlled.

The Program for Hypertension Research is engaged in cutting-edge research, striving to better understand the genetic, epigenetic, metabolic, and physiological mechanisms underlying the development of hypertension and develop new treatments for hypertension.
